Antigua is pronounced "An-Tee-ga" by Antiguans
The beach is just the beginning. With 365 beaches, one for every day of the year, Antigua is the most sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean islands and is 108 square miles. A twin island republic, Antigua's sister island Barbuda, lies 30 miles north of Antigua and is 68 square miles. Although the main language of the twin island republic is English, over the years it has become a melting pot of many nationalities, languages and cultures.
Antigua is the largest of the British Leeward Islands chain. The island is fourteen miles long and around eleven miles wide and about 108 square miles in total. The highest point is Boggy Peak (1,319 feet) in the south western corner of the island (see map) and the best views can be seen from the famous lookout at Shirley Heights towards English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard.
There are activities such as Sailing, Water Skiing, Windsurfing, Snorkeling and Glass-Bottom Boat trips to offshore Coral Reefs and nearby Islands. Golfing at Cedar Valley an 18 hole Golf Course is less than five minutes away. Basketball, Tennis and Net ball courts are two minutes away in the village.
Carnival is held annually and starts the last week of July.
Antigua Sailing Week competition is held annually and starts the last Sunday of April.
